Overview:

Responsible for facilitating individualized codingeducation sessions and audit debriefings for clinicians. Participates in the implementation of the organization’sCoding Proficiency program. Performsmedical chart audits. Interfaces anddisseminates audit results to clinicians and management.

Essential Functions:

  • Consistently exhibits behavior and communicationskills that demonstrate HealthCare Partners’ (HCP) commitment to superiorcustomer service, including quality, care and concern with each and everyinternal and external customer.

  • Performs medical chart audits meeting minimumproductivity standards and ensures proper chart documentation.

  • Proactively disseminates coding updates to theclinicians.

  • Performs pre-audit and documentation with clinicianfollow up.

  • Works with clinician departments to review andexplain medical chart audit results.

  • Submits and follows up on query forms to cliniciansbased on “inferred” chart audit data.

  • Abstracts and codes all ambulatory surgery centercharges.

  • Maintains an electronic database of all medicalchart audit results performed.

  • Provides updates and status reports to management ona weekly basis.

  • Submits weekly audit totals to management.

  • Stays abreast of industry coding and complianceissues.

  • Participates in coding / auditing discussions toensure best practice efforts and processes are implemented ensuring maximumreimbursement through appropriate coding.

  • Uses, protects, and discloses HCP patients’protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health InsurancePortability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards.

  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

  • One or two years of post-high school education or adegree from a two-year college.

  • Coding certification through AAPC or AHIMArequired.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum:

  • Over 5 years and up to and including 7 years ofexperience of ICD9, CPT and HCPCS coding experience.

  • 1 year Coding Training experience.

Preferred:

  • 5 years Medical Billing experience.

  • IDX BAR experience.

  • Allscripts / Enterprise experience.

  • Clinical experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • Computer literate with medical billing software.

  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Multi-mediaprojector.

  • Knowledge of CMS coding guidelines.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skillsin the English language.

  • Must be able to work independently to carry outwork efforts.

  • Bilingual / Spanish preferred.
