System Engineer Associate

Overview:

Under general supervision responsible for maintaining: Print Services, Commvault; Backup & Restores, support of Growth and SOX requirements for server patching and vulnerability remediation & Reporting. Assists with storage management. Installs new software releases, system upgrades, evaluates and installs patches and resolves software related problems. Maintains asset inventory, data files and monitors system configurations to ensure data integrity and server performance. Under direct guidance from the Systems Engineer Supervisor, Network Services Manager, or Senior Systems Engineers.

Schedule: Exempt 40 hours per week (1.0 FTE)

Essential Functions:

Print Queue Creation & Growth Support

  • Create and Maintain Print Queues for EPS print services

  • Work on Print related tickets & work with the FST Group to maintain the print services for EPS.

Change Management and Patching

  • Initiates change requests and reviews with appropriate CliniTech and Clinic staff ahead of the change.

  • Communicates and reviews post change status and results with appropriate CliniTech and Clinic staff.

  • Updates network documentation to reflect change.

  • Notifies and communicates emergency changes with appropriate CliniTech and Clinic staff

  • Identifies and manages the updating of required patches for the server environment.

  • Documents and reports on all server and storage changes.

SOX Auditing and Reporting

  • Collect evidence, in the form of original reports, screen shots, documentation, data files or correspondence, to confirm that processes are documented and that Control Activities are operational.

  • Complete the Data Center Operations assessment to list the Control Objectives, Control Activities and descriptions of what evidence will be needed to support conclusions as to the effectiveness of the control activities for the testing period.

  • Provide documentation in its original form and no information should be modified or manipulated prior to delivery. If an original format’s file size or type makes the information hard to view, we can discuss other options to meet testing requirements

Backup, Restore, and System Recoveries

  • Sets up backup/restore systems.

  • Communicating and Alerting

  • Assists with notifying and alerting appropriate Clinic and CliniTech staff for all server and infrastructure application outages and slowness (planned and unplanned).

  • Assists with documenting and reporting on all outages and slowness.

Server Performance and Operations

  • Assists with identifying and implementing performance and operational improvements, correcting performance and operational issues, and providing server performance reporting.

  • Assists with server capacity planning, monitoring and reporting.

  • Assists with, creates and maintains appropriate and accurate documentation.

  • Identifies and manages the updating of required anti-virus updates.

  • Assists with monitoring and reporting on all anti-virus activity.

  • Assists with: identifying security breaches and responding to these breaches; identifying, evaluating, and implementing HW and SW security devices; auditing the server and storage environment; and creating and maintaining security incident response procedures.

Troubleshooting and Resolving Problems

  • Does problem identification, isolation, resolution of 2nd and 3rd level problems

  • Assists with escalating and handing off problems when necessary and assists in providing proper documentation and communication at handoff points.

  • Assists with coordinating technical staff support (internal and external) for escalated problems.

  • Works to resolve all issues in a timely manner.

  • Assists with logging, documenting, and communicating problems and resolutions.

  • Assists with creating and implementing problem incident response procedures.

  • Assists with proactively identifying problem areas with trending activities and reports.

Strategic Planning, Disaster Recovery and Redundancy

  • Assists in creating and maintaining short and long-term server and storage architecture plans (including cost estimates) and connectivity strategies.

  • Assists in identifying single points of failure in the server and storage environment.

  • Assists in recommending and implementing disaster recovery and redundancy plans.

  • Assists in leading the recovery from a disaster or a major system outage.

Hardware Devices and Software, New Technologies, Projects

  • Assists with planning (including cost estimates), designing, configuring, implementing, maintaining, and supporting server hardware, software, and management tools.

  • Assists in designing, configuring, implementing, maintaining, and supporting storage environment.

  • Identifies, evaluates, recommends, and implements new server technologies.

  • Assists with new security technologies.

  • Maintains asset inventory including hardware and software.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent experience.

Experience:

  • 2-4 years of engineering experience focused heavily on designing, planning, implementing, and maintaining secure server environments.

  • Experience with: TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/ Internet Protocol); Active Directory; Exchange; DHCP/DNS (Dynamic Host configuration Protocol/Domain Name System); Microsoft operating systems.

  • Familiar with a variety of server monitoring tools.

Certificate/License:

  • Certifications/diplomas such as: MCSA (Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate) preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge:

  • A working understanding of the change management process.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft operating systems for servers and other Microsoft products.

  • An understanding of auditing and reporting on vulnerabilities and security concerns.

  • Understanding of security patching and securing servers and workstations.

  • Understanding of Windows Print Services; how to implement a print queue and maintaining a print server.

  • Understanding on the process and procedures required for a successful backup and restore of a server and personal data.

  • Protect a server from both internal and external attack.

Skills:

  • Skill to recover servers from different kinds of failures with minimal downtime/data loss.

  • Good problem troubleshooting skills.

  • Good customer, interpersonal and presentation skills.

Abilities:

  • Effectively audit and report on requested evidence for SOX auditing.

  • Maintain & Create print queues along with change/update print queues in a fast and efficient way to maintain user experience.

  • Patch and secure servers and workstation to reflect SOX requirements and to ensure that servers and workstation do not have any vulnerabilities.

  • Set up backup/restores of systems and create and maintain documentation.

  • Able to handle more than one task at a time.
