Overview:

Under general supervision, the Staff RN/Consulting Nurse is responsible for providing telephone triage assessment to Primary Care patients by using state of the art telecommunications, information technology and approved protocols; to clients ensuring the efficient use of medical and nursing, facilities and equipment and to provide excellent customer service.

SCHEDULE: Monday 8am-8pm, Tuesday 9am-6pm, Thursday 8am-5pm, and Friday 8am-5pm Average 35 hours per week (0.88 FTE)

The first two weeks of training require full time Monday thru Friday, 8am - 5pm. This is not optional. Please ensure you available to attend training before applying to this position.

Essential Functions:

  • Utilizes clinical expertise and approved protocols to provide health advice to consumers with clinical questions and makes referrals for health services as appropriate via telephone

  • Able to document calls in applicable system in a timely manner and exhibits a willingness to master new work routines and methods

  • Documents all inquiries according to department standards for legal/statistical purposes

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Able to problem solve issues independently as well as work with teams collaborativelysituations require assessment, decision-making within the framework of established protocols, excellent listening and communication skills, knowledge of computers, critical thinking skills and thenursing process.

  • Speaks with a pleasant, professional phone voice and provides superior customer service to internal and external customers

  • Ensures performance standards are met and accepts constructive

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Graduate from an accredited school of Nursing and/or BSN

Experience:

  • 1 year prior Call Center Nursing experience preferred.

  • Minimum of three to five years’ experience in a clinical setting (Med/Surg, critical care, ER, etc.), Case Management preferred, disease management, home health, discharge planning, utilization review, patient education and telephonic nursing.

Certificate/License:

  • RN license

  • American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing (AAACN) preferred.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice to give & evaluate patient care.

Skills:

  • Skill in applying & modifying the principles, methods and techniques of professional nursing to provide on-going patient care.

  • Critical thinking skills, ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.

  • Computer skills to include EHR (EPIC), Intranet, Outlook, and Lab and Radiology Information Systems.

Abilities:

  • Demonstrates an ability to communicate (verbal & written) and maintain good relationships with medical staff, management, customers, & other departments.

  • Knowledge and ability to teach and apply current theories, techniques and practice.
