Responsible for planning, managing, and coordinating all aspects of patient-facing communications for DaVita Medical Group. This includes, but is not limited to: marketing collateral, advertising, website oversight, health education collateral, clinical initiative collateral, and administration of an online ordering system for marketing collateral. Responsible for the strategic message development, implementation and monitoring of integrated Business to Business and Business to Consumer messages for DaVita Medical Group, as well as affiliated businesses. Oversees market-specific marketing communication support. Ensures that all materials generated by the department for patient acquisition and retention, clinical acquisition and onboarding, new business integration, etc. are accurate, meaningful, complete, compliant, and updated for all communications and marketing messages.

Essential Functions:

  • Consistently exhibits behavior and communication skills that demonstrate DaVita Medical Group’s (DMG) commitment to superior customer service, including quality, care, and concern with each and every internal and external customer.

  • Supports Director, Marketing Communications in developing tools and programs to accelerate membership growth and retention, clinician talent recruitment and retention, and superior medical outcomes.

  • Works in conjunction with Director, Marketing Communications and Manager, Creative and Brand to define and enforce adherence to brand, including maintenance of style guidelines.

  • Oversees team consisting of, but not limited to: Communications Specialists and Traffic Specialist.

  • Develops and manages the implementation of goals for short term and long term communications, creative, and branding plans for the entire organization and its affiliated businesses to achieve overall growth and business development goals.

  • Coordinates or oversees coordination with market-specific department, site and regional management teams to assess needs, develop strategies and budgets, measure value and effectiveness of marketing activities, identify marketing opportunities, establish growth objectives, implement marketing communication plans and develop strategic communications to meet the company’s business goals.

  • Develops an intimate understanding of the organization’s initiatives and the industry by monitoring internal and external influences that impact both and developing strategic messages, story ideas, patient recruitment and retention messages for the organization and its affiliated businesses.

  • Develops and manages communication plans and marketing collateral through media that includes internet / extranet, print, advertising, direct mail, and others as needed.

  • Crafts innovative audience-specific communication initiatives and materials for prospective and current patients, health plans, communities, clinicians, employee recruitment and communications, vendors, and other stakeholders.

  • Works closely with the Director, Marketing Communications in value proposition implementation and messaging, both at national and market-specific levels.

  • Works with Manager, Creative and Brand to oversees and optimize the activities, project schedules and production schedules of the in-house communications production division, which serves as DMG’s in-house “advertising agency” to ensure quality and timeliness while improving client satisfaction and decreasing variability and cost.

  • Develops and maintains in-house corporate communications style sheets and guidelines and provides copywriting expertise and support to assist in the implementation of external communications and marketing plans.

  • Collaborates with Materials Management department on the purchasing of printing and other production services in accordance with company approved purchasing practices, as needed.

  • Develops standard copyright agreements as necessary and oversees all rights and permissions activities.

  • Negotiates and prepares proposals for communications projects and manages the budgetary and staffing resources (including outsourced agencies).

  • Develops schedules and tracks progress for large-scale communications projects including change initiatives.

  • Collaborates with the Marketing Communications department leadership to analyze budgetary needs, prepare annual operating and capital budget submission and monitor variance to the approved budget on a monthly basis.

  • Oversees the ongoing management and evaluation of the department’s online project management system.

  • Collaborates with IS to develop and continuously improve the corporate website and serves as the Webmaster for existing and future company internet and extranet sites (not including social media).

  • Acts as primary content creator, including SEO, for company internet and extranet sites.

  • Serves as a participant on ongoing cross-functional internal strategic initiative teams.

  • Serves as the liaison with central corporate departments (i.e. People Services, Finance, Materials Management, etc.) regarding matters impacting the Marketing Communications department.

  • Uses, protects, and discloses DMG patients’ protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards.

  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor’sdegree from a four-year college and/or a professional certification requiringformal education beyond a two-year college.

  • Degree inLiberal Arts, Communications, English, Marketing or related field.

  • Master’sdegree in Communications, Marketing or Business Administration preferred.



  • Over 5 to 7years in a similar position in a corporate or ad agency with healthcareemphasis.

  • Over 5 to 7 years of copy editing and writing,creative services, or branding experience preferably in journalism, advertisingor marketing.

  • Over 3 to 5 years of copywriting and SEOimplementation for digital sources including website administration.

  • Extensiveexperience in communication through media that includes internet / intranet /extranet, print publications and collateral, advertising and marketing,telephone and direct mail, clinician communications for medical groups, IPAs,acquisitions / mergers, marketing initiatives, patient information for care,support and retention, employee and clinician recruitment and education, brandextension programs, research and service missions.

  • Managementexperience.

  • Extensivehealthcare experience.

  • Multiculturalmarketing and communications experience


  • Experiencein writing training modules.

  • Experiencein HTML and web programs including Flash and Dreamweaver.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Computerliterate.

  • StrongMicrosoft Project/project scheduling skills.

  • StrongMicrosoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel skills.

  • Strong journalisticand marketing writing skills.

  • Knowledgeof Quark Express, Adobe in-Design, Adobe PhotoShop, Adobe Illustrator designsoftware programs preferred.

  • Knowledgeof Macintosh and PC dual platforms preferred.

  • Activemembership in professional communications / advertising organizationspreferred.

  • Ability tounderstand, read and write Spanish preferred.

  • ValidCalifornia driver’s license and ability to travel to our offices, clients,prospects and regions by car or airplane.
