DaVita Instructional Designer in Denver, Colorado

The instructional designer will conduct the planning, analysis, design, development, deployment, and evaluation of self-paced compliance training that is mandatory for over 50,000 teammates at DaVita. In 2017 was DaVita named a Training Top 125 organization for the 13th consecutive year by Training Magazine. The successful candidate will design courses informed by industry best practices and current research in the field of learning and development. At times the instructional designer will build courses in-house; often s/he will lead a content vendor who will develop courses s/he storyboarded. There are heavy components of quality assurance, proofreading and documentation associated with this role.

Under the direction of the Training Manager, the successful instructional designer will:

Instructional Design

  • Research and storyboard effective self-paced courses informed by adult learning theory and best practices in learning and development

  • Partner with stakeholders and subject matter experts from Team Quest, DaVita’s Compliance Department, as well as the Justice League of DaVita, DaVita’s legal department, to ensure courses effectively mitigate risk and receive appropriate review

  • Coordinate training reviews and focus groups

  • Work from Design Documents and/or Style Guides to maintain consistency across courses

  • Develop courses in Articulate Storyline

  • Manage our content vendor in the development of courses (Articulate Storyline is used by the vendor)

  • Assist in the yearly review and updating of the Team Quest course library (30+ courses)

Quality Assurance & Documentation

  • Proofread course storyboards and transcripts for consistency in style, language and instructional soundness

  • Create, deploy, and compile training feedback logs in SharePoint

  • Maintain up-to-date versions of course storyboards for inclusion in government reports

  • Test training courses for functionality and quality

  • Regularly update compliance course catalog with course information and storyboards


  • Attend team meetings, phone conferences, and training as needed

  • Assist in technical and physical setup of instructor-led trainings and departmental meetings

  • Know, understand, and follow DaVita teammate guidelines, employment policies, and department or company procedures

  • Develop subject matter expertise in healthcare compliance

  • Travel: up to 20%

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Professional Development Certificate in Instructional Design or related field

  • Minimum of one year’s experience in Instructional Design/Training/eLearning (preferably in a corporate environment, though not required)

  • Intermediate proficiency in Articulate Storyline

  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint

  • Adobe Photoshop (Basic proficiency required, Intermediate or higher preferred)

  • Intermediate proficiency in:

  • MS Word

  • Excel

  • Outlook

  • Ability to balance priorities related to multiple overlapping projects

  • Strong editing/proofreading skills

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Ability to translate complex information and concepts into easy-to-understand material

  • Demonstrated expertise in:

  • Adult learning theory / Knowles theory of andragogy

  • ADDIE, SAM, and/or AGILE Model(s)

  • Alignment of learning objectives, instructional strategies, and delivery methods

  • Creating content outlines and storyboards.

  • Preferred:

  • Demonstrated expertise in on or more of the following:

  • Needs analysis

  • Learner analysis

  • ARCS Model of Motivational Design

  • Project management

  • Formative, summative, and/or confirmative assessments

  • Intermediate proficiency in:

  • Microsoft SharePoint

  • Microsoft Visio

  • Adobe Captivate

  • Experience working with healthcare and/or legal subject matter

  • Experience coordinating multi-stage reviews of training transcripts, storyboards, or courses

  • Ability to deliver occasional ILT (in-person or webinar)
