Summary: Responsible for overall quality patientcare. Primary responsibilities includeexcellence in patient and staff relations, professional behavior, infectioncontrol, patient assessment with limited triage, documentation and chartorganization, diagnostic procedures and medical treatment, quality assurance,provider assistance, medication and medical supply management, and training ofnew medical staff.

Essential Duties andResponsibilities include the following, other duties may be assigned:

  • Provide caring and comfortingdemeanor.

  • Insure urgent patient messages areaddressed and called back as soon as possible. Routine messages are called backsame day or within 24 hours.

  • Serve as healthcare resource andeducator, and reinforce provider instructions.

  • Assist patients in locating communityagencies and resources to help with special patient needs.

  • Serve as patient advocate.

  • Accurately measure patient eachvisit at MVMG standards and provider request.

  • Take history of chief complaints,and note physical manifestations.

  • Review and update medical,social, and surgical histories, and medication, allergy, and problemlists.

  • Date and sign every nursing note,message, and fax.

  • Accurately document every samplemedication given in patient’s EMR and sample log.

  • Monitor and reviewProviders schedule for the day to anticipate and assess work and patient flow.

  • Enter and maintain information on all patients to include clinical, historical and personaldata,in-house labs and treatments, etc.,and ensure Provider signs off intimely manner.

  • Review and carry out allProvider orders for patients and documents in EMR.

  • Assist Providers with treatmentsand procedures as necessary, and make certain results are documented in EMR.

  • Monitor patient communication by reviewing Providerproxy for phone notes, updates, etc.

  • Perform diagnostic procedures such as EKG, Spirometry, Pulse Oximetry, Peak Flow, Audiometry, Visual AcuityScreening, Rapid Lab Tests (U/A, Fecal occult Blood, Pregnancy, Protime/INR,Strep, Influenza, Glucose), set up for micro U/A, KOH & Wet Mount, andothers.

  • Schedule out-of-officetests/procedures at contracted facilities based upon patients’ insurance.

  • Initiate/complete patientreferrals to other providers/facilities in network, as ordered.

  • After provider review, call patient with results of tests ordered, give further instructions, &answer patient questions, document appropriately.

  • Maintain autoclave, and insure instruments are properly wrapped, marked, and sterilized. Perform and log spore testing and cleaning of autoclave.

  • Perform annual TB testing on sitestaff.

  • Insure that exam tables aredisinfected between patients and that exam rooms are thoroughly disinfectedevery week.

  • Triage patient calls and messages,and make decisions regarding appropriate routing of messages. Give medicaladvice only at direction of provider.

  • Assess walk-in patients forurgent or emergent care and take appropriate action.

  • Appropriately schedules patients in accordancewith provider’s specific protocols.

  • Perform treatments asordered by provider, such as: injections, immunizations, nebulization,application of heat and cold, dressing and bandages.

  • Consistently update Immunization Registry andImmunization Records.

  • Perform and maintain quality control logs for all laboratory tests in accordance with CLIAregulations.

  • Perform equipment maintenance and calibration and maintain appropriate logs asdirected by site.

  • Prepare patients and exam roomsfor procedures and examinations before patient is seen.

  • Manage provider’s schedule daily,and schedules same-day appointments as needed.

  • Handle as many administrativetasks as possible to alleviate provider workload.

  • Keep patients apprised if provider is runningbehind schedule.

  • Order and maintain adequatesupplies of medications, vaccines, and medical supplies without over-stocking.

  • Resolve discrepancies, report unresolved discrepancies to practice manager or lead physician.

  • Demonstrateand exemplify behavior consistent with MVMG's core values, vision and mission.

  • Maintain knowledge of company policies and procedures, OSHA and other related regulations and guidelines, and ensure department compliance.

  • Use, protect, and disclose MVMG patients’ protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards.

  • Attend and complete all required training and development to include annual compliance training.

  • Perform additional duties as needed.

  • Graduation from Medical Assisting program toinclude completion of clinical externship.

  • One year experience in provider’s medicaloffice, preferred.

Certificates, Licenses,Registrations:

  • Obtain registration or certification within 90 days of hire.

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology,pharmacology, medical terminology.

  • Knowledge of medical procedures toinclude examinations, diagnostics, laboratory, vital signs, treatments,referrals, measurements, injections, venipunctures.

  • Knowledge of operation, care, andmaintenance of medical equipment and instruments.

  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPTCoding.

  • Knowledge of common safety and hazardprecautions necessary to maintain a safe work environment, which meets OSHAstandards.

  • UnderstandCLIAstandards and regulations.
