Summary: Responsible for overall quality patient care. Primary responsibilities include excellence in patient and staff relations, professional behavior, infection control, patient assessment with limited triage, documentation and chart organization, diagnostic procedures and medical treatment, quality assurance, provider assistance, medication and medical supply management, and training of new medical staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, other duties may be assigned:
Provide caring and comforting demeanor.
Insure urgent patient messages are addressed and called back as soon as possible. Routine messages are called back same day or within 24 hours.
Serve as healthcare resource and educator, and reinforce provider instructions.
Assist patients in locating community agencies and resources to help with special patient needs.
Serve as patient advocate.
Accurately measure patient each visit at MVMG standards and provider request.
Take history of chief complaints, and note physical manifestations.
Review and update medical, social, and surgical histories, and medication, allergy, and problem lists.
Date and sign every nursing note, message, and fax.
Accurately document every sample medication given in patient’s EMR and sample log.
Monitor and review Providers schedule for the day to anticipate and assess work and patient flow.
Enter and maintain information on all patients to include clinical, historical and personal data,in-house labs and treatments, etc.,and ensure Provider signs off in timely manner.
Review and carry out all Provider orders for patients and documents in EMR.
Assist Providers with treatments and procedures as necessary, and make certain results are documented in EMR.
Monitor patient communication by reviewing Provider proxy for phone notes, updates, etc.
Perform diagnostic procedures such as EKG, Spirometry, Pulse Oximetry, Peak Flow, Audiometry, Visual Acuity Screening, Rapid Lab Tests (U/A, Fecal occult Blood, Pregnancy, Protime/INR, Strep, Influenza, Glucose), set up for micro U/A, KOH & Wet Mount, and others.
Schedule out-of-office tests/procedures at contracted facilities based upon patients’ insurance.
Initiate/complete patient referrals to other providers/facilities in network, as ordered.
After provider review, call patient with results of tests ordered, give further instructions, & answer patient questions, document appropriately.
Maintain autoclave, and insure instruments are properly wrapped, marked, and sterilized. Perform and log spore testing and cleaning of autoclave.
Perform annual TB testing on site staff.
Insure that exam tables are disinfected between patients and that exam rooms are thoroughly disinfected every week.
Triage patient calls and messages, and make decisions regarding appropriate routing of messages. Give medical advice only at direction of provider.
Assess walk-in patients for urgent or emergent care and take appropriate action.
Appropriately schedules patients in accordance with provider’s specific protocols.
Perform treatments as ordered by provider, such as: injections, immunizations, nebulization, application of heat and cold, dressing and bandages.
Consistently update Immunization Registry and Immunization Records.
Perform and maintain quality control logs for all laboratory tests in accordance with CLIA regulations.
Perform equipment maintenance and calibration and maintain appropriate logs as directed by site.
Prepare patients and exam rooms for procedures and examinations before patient is seen.
Manage provider’s schedule daily, and schedules same-day appointments as needed.
Handle as many administrative tasks as possible to alleviate provider workload.
Keep patients apprised if provider is running behind schedule.
Order and maintain adequate supplies of medications, vaccines, and medical supplies without over-stocking.
Resolve discrepancies, report unresolved discrepancies to practice manager or lead physician.
Demonstrate and exemplify behavior consistent with MVMG's core values, vision and mission.
Maintain knowledge of company policies and procedures, OSHA and other related regulations and guidelines, and ensure department compliance.
Use, protect, and disclose MVMG patients’ protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards.
Attend and complete all required training and development to include annual compliance training.

Graduation from Medical Assisting program to include completion of clinical externship.
One year experience in provider’s medical office, preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- Obtain registration or certification within 90 days of hire.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, medical terminology.
Knowledge of medical procedures to include examinations, diagnostics, laboratory, vital signs, treatments, referrals, measurements, injections, venipunctures.
Knowledge of operation, care, and maintenance of medical equipment and instruments.
Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT Coding.
Knowledge of common safety and hazard precautions necessary to maintain a safe work environment, which meets OSHA standards.
UnderstandCLIA standards and regulations.
