The managed care pharmacist at DaVita Medical Group has a distinctive role and is intimately involved in the care and course of pharmaceutical treatment and plays a vital role in contributing to positive patient outcomes. The managed care pharmacist will report directly to the director, pharmacy services. The incumbent’s duties will include but are not limited to medical drug management, data integration, communication management with physicians and nursing staff, outcomes research efforts, clinical consulting, drug utilization review, cost analysis programs, and benefit management. In addition, the pharmacist will be able to qualify and quantify the results of different therapies and programs, and therefore add value to DaVita Medical Group.

Implements and coordinates strategies to control pharmacy utilization and cost, reduce variations among regions. Executes strategies to educate physicians/providers, and will include methods to measure and monitor the effectiveness and success of all pharmacy programs and services implemented.
Assists with the implementation and planning of annual vaccination initiatives.
Participates as an internal clinical consultant to physicians, departments, and other constituents.
Works closely with Information Services department to ensure accurate collection and reporting of pharmacy utilization data.
Attends all Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee meetings and assures appropriate roll-out and communication of policies, procedures, guidelines and decisions made. Communicates treatment guidelines and policies to the physicians/providers to ensure that physician/provider behavior change is consistent with the goals of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
Monitors new drug approvals, drug launches and pipeline drugs, especially specialty drugs.
Researches and analyzes drugs and emerging therapeutics, including financial forecasts on the web and works with analysts and actuaries to develop an internal financial forecast for the company
Continuously monitors relevant publicly available news/developments in the pharmaceutical sector, performing any ad hoc analyses and generating insights
Utilizes broad understanding of managed care and PBMs to develop strategies to mitigate DMG’s cost and trend while improving our member’s health and costs
Develop corporate communications of high quality to be shared with senior leadership such as trend updates, pipeline updates and market event notifications
Partners with other healthcare professionals and business professionals in a team environment
Presents confidently to leadership on key metrics including generic drug pipeline savings and potential drug pipeline impacts
Supports clinical research integration activities with internal research department
Supports Finance and regions by conducting and analyzing drug spend, utilization and market share analyses, updating and distributing presentations/reports, drafting communications, etc.
Other duties as assigned by the director, pharmacy services.
Bachelor’s degree OR a doctoral degree in Pharmacy with a minimum of three years experience developing and administering clinical pharmacy programs.
- The incumbent must be a licensed pharmacist in California.
- Minimum three years experience in a managed care environment and extensive knowledge of state of the art managed care pharmacy programs and a proven clinical track record of developing cost-effective, high quality programs.

Understanding of pharmacy-related analytics.
The incumbent must be highly motivated with proven managerial, leadership and organizational skills.
Excellent communication skills, coordination and planning skills along with an ability to interact with a variety of audiences to build collaboration and consensus.
Incumbent must have a demonstrable work history involving complex and innovative problem-solving for which there may not be clearly established guidelines and proven solutions.
Proven track record of satisfying many stakeholders with competing interests.
